National Apprenticeship Week - Meet Shaun!

News

Posted Feb 11, 2021

This week is National Apprenticeship Week 2021, and the theme for this year is: Build the Future!

To celebrate we had a chat with our apprentice Shaun about his apprenticeship so far…

What’s your full name?

Shaun John Harris Moore

How old are you?

19

What’s your favourite football team?

The right answer here is Swindon, but I’m also a QPR fan as well.

Who is your favourite player?

My favourite player of all time is Iniesta, I thought he was brilliant. From a young age he was always a footballer I looked at and admired. Another one is Bobby Moore, because he played the same position as me, and we have the same surname.

What’s your favourite food?

Plain pasta and cheese – controversial but it’s up there.

Why did you choose to do an apprenticeship?

I chose to do an apprenticeship at the STFC Community Foundation, because I had been volunteering here beforehand, and I enjoyed it. I loved the working atmosphere, and I thought it would be a good path to take in my career.

What surprised you most about the job?

What surprised me most is the different opportunities that have come with it, doing lots of different sessions and delivering to different age groups, and just the wide variety of different target groups that we work with here.

How do you feel you are treated as an apprentice?

I think it’s really good, there’s still that level of responsibility which is needed. Everyone supports me and gives me the chance to get my apprenticeship work done, and I still have that chance to see what the other full-time members of staff do.

Whats your favourite part of the job?

My favourite part of the job is the coaching, getting out there and being on the pitch delivering — whether assisting, which I’m mainly doing, or in some cases leading. Seeing the kids smile when they’re playing football is brilliant.

What advice would you give to anyone considering an apprenticeship?

I’d say go for it! It’s a good starting point for any job really — it gives you a good understanding of the organisation and gives you that foundation to continue learning and if you’re going for that full-time job, it puts you in a great position to get it.
