Football Fans in Training

September 2018 has seen STFC Community Foundation welcome the eighth cohort of the incredibly successful Football Fans in Training programme, a hugely successful 12-week course that is proven to help men lose weight and live a healthier lifestyle.

We run three courses — for men, women and non-football fans — so we’re open to everyone aged 35 to 65, with a waist measurement of 38” and above. Although we emphasise that the end goal should be improving health and fitness, our most recent cohort were proud to have lost a remarkable collective weight of 31 stone.

Public Health Swindon and Swindon Borough Council have been instrumental in supporting us with the Football Fans in Training initiative, which has helped over 200 local Football Fans become healthier and lose weight, with a combined weight loss of over 250 stone.

What’s more, many of our participants are now taking part in regular weekly activities to maintain their healthier lifestyles. We’ve had participants join six-a-side football teams, participate in the RunVEMBER challenge, walking groups and even run the London Marathon.

I have enjoyed every minute of the course and will really miss our Thursday get-togethers but I’m looking forward to continuing friendships with a great group of lads and spurring each other on to levels of fitness we’ve not seen for some years now!
