Free Sports Sessions
Using the power of football and sport to inspire young people to reach their potential
STFC Community Foundation’s Premier League Kicks programme is part of a national initiative funded by the Premier League to deliver free football/sports sessions to young people. Premier League Kicks provides FREE, regular and inclusive opportunities for young people to take part in football, multi-sport sessions and a range of opportunities designed to support their personal development. Through positive experiences on and off the pitch, the programme helps young people build confidence, develop new skills, make positive connections and take steps towards achieving their potential. Alongside regular sporting activity, Premier League Kicks creates opportunities for young people to learn, develop and get involved in their communities through workshops, mentoring, volunteering and social action. The programme encourages young people to make positive choices, develop supportive relationships and feel a greater sense of belonging, helping to create stronger, safer and more inclusive communities.
Our Premier League Kicks objectives:
- Provide regular, free and inclusive opportunities for young people to play, coach and officiate in football and other sports.
- Create positive environments where young people can build confidence, develop skills and improve their overall wellbeing.
- Provide opportunities to learn beyond the sporting environment through education, mentoring, workshops and personal development.
- Encourage young people to take an active role in their communities through volunteering, leadership and social action.
- Support positive relationships between young people, local organisations and community partners, contributing to safer, stronger and more inclusive communities.
- Help young people discover new interests, experiences and positive pathways for their future.
Our Premier League Kicks provision:
We currently deliver free football and multi-sport sessions at Foundation Park and Moredon Sporting Hub, giving young people the opportunity to be active, develop their sporting abilities and spend time in a welcoming and supportive environment. As mentioned above, our programme goes beyond the football pitch. Throughout the year, we provide additional opportunities for participants to learn, reflect and develop through personal development workshops, mentoring and discussions around important issues affecting young people and their communities. This has included recent pitch side workshops focused on topics such as the prevention of knife crime, anti-social behaviour at football matches and personal wellbeing activities.
Opportunities through Premier League Kicks:
We also look to create new experiences and opportunities for our regular Kicks participants. Young people have represented STFC Community Foundation in regional tournaments and the National Premier League Kicks Cup, giving them the opportunity to experience competitive football, develop teamwork and have the privilege of representing their town against other football clubs. Through Premier League Kicks, we aim to create positive experiences that stay with young people beyond the session. Whether that is discovering a passion for sport, developing a new skill, making new friendships, gaining confidence or finding a positive pathway for the future.
