Yas, Mass and Darren Make Youngsters Day
News
As part of the Football League initiative, in which Professional Footballers from each club are invited to become ambassadors for
their Community Trust programmes, this week saw Swindon Town FC 1st team players Yaser Kasim, Massimo Luongo and Darren Ward visit their chosen programmes to be unveiled as ambassadors, whilst participating in Question and Answer’s, participating in the session and then having pictures with the players. On Monday, Twilight Football ambassador Yaser Kasim visited the Youth First Centre in Walcot 6.30 — 8pm to meet the youths in attendance and see their positive attitudes on display. Yaser participated in a Question & Answer and then played in a team for the matches, showing some silky touches and great skill, as well as uniting the team together. The youths loved his presence as he was able to
offer them advice on how to become a professional football, whilst telling all about his past, background and his steps to a career at STFC. Tuesday saw a further two appearances, firstly from Massimo Luongo at Croft Sports Centre who was visiting all the students on our STFC Football and Futsal Education Programme, for which he is the ambassador for. Massimo was chosen because of his close ballwork and ball control he’s shown throughout his performances on the pitch with STFC, whilst being a very technical player, which is an attribute suited to Futsal. He participated in a big group picture and further Question & Answer, whilst feeding back to the students about his experience on
Soccer AM recently. The students were in awe of Massimo as he talked about his days at Tottenham, a loan spell at Ipswich and STFC’s current battle to make the League One Play-Off’s. The second visit on a busy Tuesday featured our Development Centres with Darren Ward visiting the boys and girls sessions at Stratton Community Centre 3.30 — 5.30. Darren is a regular at our centres and school clubs, which is the reason for him being appointed as the STFC Community Trust Ambassador for all of our projects, as well as being STFC Club Captain. As well as overseeing and assisting other players in their roles as ambassadors Darren was earmarked as our Tiny Tots
and Development Centres ambassador, for which he is delighted to be a part of as his 2 young children attend the sessions. Darren participated in a Question & Answer, as well as getting involved in the coaching and playing side of the sessions too. The children were so excited to see Darren and loved impressing him throughout with the skills and techniques learnt across the term. A big thanks to Yaser, Massimo and Darren; our Community staff and participants are looking forward to your future visits for your projects already!
