TOWN TEAM UP TO TACKLE PROSTATE CANCER
Prostate Cancer is the most common cancer in men, and if you’re over 50, or you’re black, or you have a family history of the disease, then your risk is even higher.
Swindon Town FC Community Foundation have been made aware of a project in the community being carried out by a local Primary Care Network, Wyvern Health. They represent patients of Old Town Surgery, Priory Road Medical Centre and Lawn Medical Centre.
They have teamed up with Prostate Cancer UK and are launching an awareness campaign for men most at risk. More than 3000 men across these surgeries have been identified as being in the most common groups for Prostate Cancer and over the coming months they will receive a text message from the practices asking them to take the Prostate Cancer UK “risk checker”.
If there are any concerns after taking the checker, patients will have the option to book in for a PSA blood test which can help identify the risk.
Town Legend Paul Bodin, who was diagnosed with Prostate Cancer said “having no symptoms myself, please can all men in their 50’s get tested as soon as possible, the NHS were incredibly supportive and I cant thank them enough. I want to encourage any of our supporters or members of their families who receive this text message to complete the “risk checker” and if necessary, get checked!”
