Swindon Town Community Foundation Hosted First Disability Celebration Festival
Swindon Town Community Foundation proudly hosted its first Disability Celebration Festival, bringing together young participants from across the local area for a day of sport, inclusion, and achievement.
The festival marked the culmination of five weeks of in-school sessions, where coaches supported children to build confidence, develop skills, and engage in physical activity. In total, 41 children attended, representing Even Swindon Primary, St Paul’s Primary, Devizes School, and Uplands.
Held in the Nigel Eady Multisport Dome, the event provided a safe, welcoming environment for all. Delivered free of charge thanks to support from the Masonic Charitable Foundation, the initiative ensured every child could take part.
Participants rotated through six inclusive activity zones, including football, dodgeball, basketball, and volleyball. Each session was adapted to suit a range of abilities, allowing every child to experience success and enjoyment.
Children also enjoyed a behind-the-scenes tour of the Swindon Town Football Club stadium. A quiet breakout space was available throughout the day, offering time to relax and recharge when needed.
At the close of the festival, every participant received a certificate and STFC goodie bag, celebrating their achievements and involvement.
Reflecting on the event, Head of Disability Scott Burden said:
“Having worked with these children in school for the past five weeks, it was really inspiring to be able to bring them all together for this celebratory Disability Festival. Swindon Town Community Foundation is incredibly proud to deliver our first Disability Festival in the Nigel Eady Multisport Dome here at Foundation Park, and we look forward to growing our disability provision over the coming months.”
Kai who was a participant of the course quoted:
“I’ve really enjoyed the last six-weeks, especially learning about teamwork and working with people I don’t usually talk to. The celebration festival was special as it was a first time experience for many of us coming to the facilities at Foundation Park and getting a stadium tour.”
This event highlights the power of inclusive sport in building confidence, friendships, and lasting memories, while reinforcing the Foundation’s commitment to creating opportunities for every young person to thrive.
We love our supporters.
And we love what we do. But we couldn’t do it without these great people that get behind us. Be a supporter.
