It wasn’t just a special day for Swindon Town’s first team on Saturday 9^th August, it was also a very special day for the Swindon Rockets who hosted their first Powerchair football tournament which was staged at the Oasis Leisure Centre. The event, which was supported by Swindon Town FITC, proved to be an outstanding success with all the players displaying great skill and technique in a very competitive arena throughout the whole day. The tournament wasn’t hindered by two late cancellations of teams on the Friday as the four teams that took part gave the crowd lots to enjoy and cheer about during the day. Evergreens from Watford were a very strong side with the Rockets fielding two teams and Reading making up the fourth. Everybody competed against each other and the one winner on the day was definitely football. Rachel Lambert from the Swindon Rockets commented: ​“It was a great success and we are delighted that the participants enjoyed the day so much. In conjunction with the bucket collections we have planned again through FITC at two home games, we are hoping to raise enough money to stage future events here in Swindon.” Clive Maguire from the FITC Trust said: ​“I was absolutely delighted to go down and support Rachel, Phil and Kay who work tirelessly to provide a quality football team for these young people with severe disabilities. Every Monday evening they have coaching sessions at Nova Hreod School where they are put through their paces to prepare for such tournaments as these.” ​“As a charitable trust we are extremely keen to support the club to enable them to fulfil more fixtures and festivals such as the one which staged at the Oasis.” [gallery ids=“5205”]
