Ahead of this year’s International Women’s Day, Abbeyfields hosted an inspiring celebration of girls’ football, welcoming more than 400 young players for a special event dedicated to the growth of the women’s game.

The afternoon featured a visit from Libby, who delivered a talk to the large crowd of aspiring footballers, sharing her experiences and highlighting the increasing opportunities for girls in the sport. Her message encouraged the players to believe in themselves, keep working hard, and enjoy their journey in football.

Following the talk, Libby joined the girls out on the pitch where she led a series of skills sessions. Demonstrating techniques and offering practical tips, she gave the young players the chance to learn directly from someone passionate about the game. The sessions were full of energy and excitement as the girls got involved and tested their abilities.

With International Women’s Day now marked around the world, the event served as a fitting way to celebrate the continued growth of girls’ football and the importance of providing opportunities for young players to develop and thrive in the sport.

Organisers expressed their gratitude to Libby for her time and commitment to supporting women’s football. Her enthusiasm and dedication helped create a memorable afternoon and inspired the next generation of players.

For the hundreds of girls who attended, the event was more than just a football session, it was a celebration of the women’s game and a reminder of how far it has come, and how bright the future looks.
