Jonny Set For Six Nations Debut
News
Swindon Town Football in the Community Trust would like to wish Jonny May every success when he plays
for England against France tomorrow. Since the STFITC formed in 1991, it’s delivered a number of different programmes and projects, offered voluntary opportunities and provided a number work experiences to youngsters who wish to pursue a career in sport or football. These experiences have presented a number of success stories that have all played a large part in the Trust’s history, with this weekend being no exception, as local Swindon lad Jonny May makes his RBS Six Nations debut for England on Saturday against France. As a local youngster who has a passion in football and rugby, when Jonny was 15 year old he undertook work experience within our very own Community Trust as he visited a number of our community projects on a day to day basis as one of our Full Time members of staff would. Jonny’s larger than life character made sure we had some fond memories during his time at the Trust, impressing Trust Managers, Jon Holloway and Clive Maguire throughout with his enthusiasm and commitment. Jon Holloway, Swindon Town Football in the Community Joint Trust Manager, commented: “It’s fantastic to see Jonny May playing in the England International team. Even at an early age it was clear that Jonny had the focus, determination and ability to achieve his dream, and to see him performing at an Elite level is just rewards for the hard work and dedication he has put in to reach the highest level possible. He’s a great character, and we look forward to seeing his career develop. We are hopefully he’ll even be able to feature on one of our Holiday Development Weeks as a special guest.”
Growing up, Jonny was a good footballer but decided to take the avenue of Rugby and from his performances for Gloucester in the Aviva Premiership he eventually won his first International Cap for England in their 2013 summer tour against Argentina. He’s now set to take centre stage in one of Rugby’s most prestigious competitions tomorrow. Be sure to tune to see him perform.
