News

Posted Jan 26, 2015

On Wednesday 14th January the DS Active young footballers who meet from 5 – 6pm at the Haydon Centre were delighted to be featured on the 105.5 Community Radio Station. The station which specialises and features activities for people with disabilities were treated to a great hours entertainment with our youngsters whose ages range from 5‑mid 20’s. The group which was formed in 2001 now also have occasional fixtures against professional clubs and in 2013 they competed in the National DS Active Festival at West Bromwich Albion and played against clubs such as Northampton Town and Hull City. Clive Maguire joint Scheme Manager said This is a great group of young players who all have a strong friendship bond and love to get together every Wednesday for their coaching sessions.” Allan Minns who takes the group is a fantastic coach, making sure that all the participants get as much out of the sessions as possibDS Active Community Radio Featurele. I’d also like to say a big thank you to Jo Messenger who helps with the administration side of the group and supports in any way she can. We are very much looking forward to this year where we are hoping to attend the National Festival and also marking World Downs Syndrome Day on the 21st March 2015 when we are hoping to have the players on the pitch at half time during the Walsall game.”
