Swindon Town FC refugee squad

News

Posted May 13, 2022

It was amazing for our Swindon Town FC Refugees football squad to play in their 1st ever fixture last week at Foundation Park. The team narrowly lost a competitive match 2 – 1

These sessions are kindly supported by the Wiltshire FA, The Harbour Project and the Wiltshire Wildlife Trust. The Harbour Project provides advice, support, practical help and friendship, for every individual who seeks asylum or is granted refugee status in Swindon, helping them to begin rebuilding their lives. STFC Community Foundation is aiding them in this, by providing a weekly coached Football session at Foundation Park. This gives participants an opportunity to take to the field in a safe environment, helping maintain their fitness, as well as helping to work on communication, and building relationships with their local community.

Head of Foundation Jon Holloway said — The session currently has twenty participants, hailing from different parts of the globe, and we are proud to be able to work in collaboration with the Harbour Project to offer this opportunity, and hopefully make a small difference in their lives.”
