Wednesday saw the STFC Community Foundation ceremonially cutting the first sod on the future site of their state-of-the-art covered sports facility. John Carter and Gary Herbert, Executors of the Nigel Eady Trust, put the first spades in the ground, ahead of the site preparation beginning very soon.

This expansion of Foundation Park, which opened in January 2020, will provide a sheltered facility to allow more vulnerable groups the opportunity to enjoy sports and activities all year round.

On site for the ceremony were representatives from not only the Nigel Eady Trust, but also a number of other partners in the project such as the South Swindon Parish Council, as well as the participants of the Foundation’s Staying Connected programme, who are just one of the groups who will benefit from the new facility.

Head of Foundation, Jon Holloway, said This is the beginning of another great chapter for the Foundation, and it’s wonderful to be able to celebrate the occasion with John and Gary cutting the first sod.

Foundation Park is at the heart of everything we do in our community, and the provision of this new indoor facility is going to help us connect with even more people in Swindon. Now, we just can’t wait for the construction to begin and for the facility to start taking shape.
