John Trollope Statue Appeal Launch!
We are delighted to launch this fundraising appeal to build a statue of John Trollope MBE at Foundation Park.
Having seen the wonderful statue of Don Rogers (and huge credit to TrustSTFC and the football club for all their hard work to bring this to fruition), we have decided that we want to celebrate another of our 1969 heroes, with a statue of John Trollope. Not only for his role in the historic cup victory, but in recognition of his immense contribution and commitment to Swindon Town FC and Swindon Town FC Community Foundation.
John’s remarkable achievements include, being Swindon Town FC record appearance holder by playing 880 matches over 21 years between 1960 – 1981. John was also ever present in the first team for 7 seasons, featuring in 368 consecutive matches. When his playing career came to an end, John served Swindon Town for 40 years in various capacities including first team manager, assistant manager, first team coach, youth team manager and club ambassador. In 1978 John was appointed the MBE for his services to football.
John has also dedicated many hours over many years to support the Community Foundation with attending the community projects and programmes delivered at Foundation Park.
Head of Foundation Shane Hewlett commented:
“As a Swindon Town legend, John has played a significant role in the history of Swindon Town FC, over a huge period of time, and he has shown such commitment to supporting the Community Foundation for many years. It will be great to have the statues of Don and John located on either side of the County Ground stadium and allow supporters to see both club heroes when they approach the ground. We can’t wait to get moving with this fundraising campaign and we would like to encourage all Swindon Town supporters to get behind this project.”
With the success of Don’s statue, the Community Foundation will commission the same sculptor Alan Herriott to build John’s statue and with the hope of having the statue unveiled at the start of the new season, Aug 2025.
The fundraising campaign is being run in collaboration with the supporters groups TrustSTFC, Official Supporters Club, the STFC Business Group and Swindon Town FC, with the aim to raise £100,000.
Director of Community Jon Holloway added:
“It will be amazing to have the statue of John Trollope at Foundation Park, and for all our young players and participants to see the statue, and understand John’s achievements from his dedication to Swindon Town FC. John is special person who truly deserves this recognition.”
John Trollope himself stated of the project:
“It would be an honour to have a statue at Foundation Park and it’s been a privilege to support the Community Foundation as an ambassador. I have seen first-hand the fantastic work the Foundation deliver and their tremendous community facility that is thriving on the County Ground site.”
We love our supporters.
And we love what we do. But we couldn’t do it without these great people that get behind us. Be a supporter.
