News
Swindon Town FC (STFC) Community Foundation are one step closer to achieving their planned covered sports facility, thanks to a substantial contribution from the Premier League, The FA, and Government’s Football Foundation. This planned facility is the next stage of STFC Community Foundation’s Foundation Park sports facility that first opened to the public in 2019, with the Pavilion building opening at the beginning of 2020.
Head of STFC Community Foundation, Jon Holloway said:
“The contribution of quarter of a million pounds from the Football Foundation is going to go a long way to ensuring this covered facility becomes a reality. The Football Foundation is dedicated to providing opportunities for footballers and sports people of all ages in the UK, and we’re very grateful that we have been chosen to receive this grant to extend even more of those opportunities to the people of our community.
We believe that the covered sports facility will provide the most vulnerable and disadvantaged members of our community, with new opportunities and ways to engage within the heart of the community, whilst also building upon the success of Foundation Park, and increasing the capacity of the overall site. Enabling us to run additional services and provide additional provision for play and training. We can now very much look forward to work commencing onsite very soon and the opening of this facility in the early 2023.”
Robert Sullivan, Chief Executive of the Football Foundation, said:
“This grant awarded to Swindon Town Community Foundation towards developing their new indoor facility is great news for the local community.
“It will support people’s ability to play our national game locally and therefore help unlock football’s many benefits to physical and mental wellbeing. That’s why we’re committed to transforming the face of grassroots football facilities in this country.
“The Football Foundation is working closely with our partners – the Premier League, The FA, Government through Sport England – to support facility development projects like this across the country over the next decade to transform our grassroots game and unlock the power of pitches.”
