Children's Powerchair Football Sessions

Wheelchair Football

For the last two years, Swindon Town FC Community Foundation have been delivering wheelchair football sessions at the Robert Le Kyng primary school, with their children who attend the SNUG (Special Needs Unit Group).

The children all experience mobility problems, with many of them having Cerebral Palsy, but are able to engage in the weekly session delivered at their school. The children learn vital skills such as movement and team-work within the structured session, then always finish with a game situation using the specially adapted wheelchair footballs provided by the trust.

Through this initiative, we have signposted children to the local wheelchair powered football club, the Swindon Rockets, whose first team compete at a national level in this very competitive sport. In addition, we have also had some of the children attend our social inclusion multi sports holiday courses, where they work with and engage with children with pan-disabilities from other local schools.
